I am half way through my take action assignment. I have decided to get together with my local girl scouts by volunteering at their weekly meetings. I had trouble deciding what charity to volunteer at, and there were none that interested me. A couple weeks later after we had discussed the take action assignment, the girl scout idea literally fell into my lap. I was at work at Petco when a group came into my work for a guided tour of our store and the animals. I was lucky enough to be the tour guide! I spent an hour with the girl scout group walking them through each department of animals and explaining the needs of each animal. I later noticed that the school the girls were from happened to be the school my mom works at and is close by. I decided to contact my mom and had her give me the troop leader's information so I may contact her. The girl scouts does not have a specific person in charge, but instead is made up of volunteer parents who take charge together of the group meetings and field trips. The mom's allowed me to sit in on their meetings that happen for an hour every Thursday, along with going on a field trip with them. Girl Scout's is not a charity, but instead a youth program specifically for young girls. They raise money to donate, but also learn set skills t be successful in life and gives them an outside academic outside of school to participate in and connect with friends and help better the lives of other people. I am more than half way done with my hours, but even though I only have thirty more minutes to volunteer, I will spend the entire last hour with them at their next meeting!
I am so glad you found something that fit! I think working with the Girl Scouts is an excellent idea. Their organization has come a long way toward mentoring young girls.
