For the take action project, I decided to volunteer at the
YWCA. I think I found this choice to be best since this class deals with women
and talking about women’s issues, I think this place to protect and help women
fit best. When we first got the project, I didn't think it would be that hard
to complete four hours. I thought I could just go to the organization, tell
them I’d like to volunteer, and just complete all the hours within a matter of
a day or two. I didn't find this to be the case, and the process was much more
complex and took a lot longer than I thought. I had to email Adrian, and set up
a date for an interview, complete a lot of paper work, and get my clearance from
the DHS in order to finally start volunteering. I found the process to be very
tedious because I only need to complete four hours, yet I had to do all this
work and this interview, which took up a lot of time that I don’t have to
spare. Even though I understand why they have this process and why it is
important to complete the interview and turn in all of the paper work. I had to
take time off work to get all of it completed. I finally went and put in some
hours today, and it made all of the tedious work and everything I went through
to finally get in worth it. This project is going great so far, I can’t wait to
complete the rest of the time required, and hopefully keep volunteering there
after this class is over!
Sorry that volunteering at the YWCA has been a bit stressful. I think others are feeling that too from them. It sounds like you have a positive attitude though! Keep it up!
