Well first off, I helped volunteer at the shelter of flint
with Roger, Dennaro, Amanda and Desiree. The whole process was a
long one. We had to drop off paperwork that had a background check to it. I
waited and waited and since I never herd back from them saying I was not
allowed I figured I should come anyways. It ended up being my paperwork was
misplaced but Petra who is the shelters coordinator still let me volunteer with
my group, for that I am really grateful for. Roger, Desiree and I got there
around 6pm while Dennaro and Amanda got there at 6:30 and we thought that was a little early, but we still went inside.
Thank goodness we got there early because as we were setting up our tables with
all the crafts and supplies, we realized that it had taken us a lot longer. We ended up having a few samples of different
crafts that they could make which included snowmen, snowflakes and Rudolf! When
I went back upstairs to giver Petra my paperwork again, 2 little girls came up
to me and gave me hugs. I was truly surprised! For this I made cookies and
Amanda had brought candy canes so that after they were done they could all
enjoy a snack afterwards. All in all, all the kids loved it. They were just so
happy they could do something fun. When they were doing this, the mothers were
able to do other things like chores, or laundry or even have time to themselves
without the kids. We are going back next
week to do more things.
Isn't it amazing about the impact we can have on kids just by giving them just a small amount of our time? Nice job on the Family Fun Night!
