Take Action- Part 1

I am planning to complete my Take Action service hours at the YWCA of Flint.  The YWCA offers a variety of services to women in the Flint area and frankly after being given a tour of the facility, I was quite surprised at everything the physical building encompasses (a gym, swimming pool, classrooms for small children, etc.)  To initiate the volunteer process, one must complete a criminal background check as well as a sex offender check. Once I received a clear check on both, I was able to begin my service hours.
A large part of the YWCA involves the Safe House which houses women and their children who need a non-abusive place to call home.  A donation center provides clothing and other goods to these women and children at no cost.  Keeping the donation center stocked in an orderly fashion is a big job as it involves separating donated clothing (of which there is a LOT) by gender and size, then categorizing them into their own designated rooms.  Other items such as toiletries, bedding and books are also donated and kept in their specific location.
I have currently completed approximately 2-1/4 hours at the YWCA and am awaiting word from the volunteer coordinator on when to complete my remaining 2 hours.
