For my take action project I have decided to work with the girls in a second grade classroom at Durant Turri Mott and work with a few of them at a time to make them feel special, and to try and help them have a valued perspective on education. Aside from going out and working in small groups with the girls talking about going to college, what potential careers they want, and why they think education is important. I plan on just having fun with them and doing a few fun activities to make them feel special and important.
The first meeting I have had with a few girls we talked about what they wanted to be when they grew up. Two of the girls want to be teachers, one wants to be a nurse (so she could see gizzards of peoples insides), and the other wants to be a lawyer. We talked about the type of schooling they think goes behind what they want to do, and how you need to get good grades in school/high school to get into college. They all say that they want to go to college to be smart, make money, and they all said they want to help people and friends so they can be smarter and help. LOL I thought it was so cute and they just kept repeating themselves about helping people and becoming smarter.
Here is a picture of the four girls I worked with!
I love that she wants to see the "gizzards of people's insides." How great that you're being a mentor for them, even for a short while. They look like a lively bunch! If you can, you should keep this going! :)
