Dot Day Activity Idea

The book, The Dot by Peter H. Reynolds isn’t just a cute children’s book, it also holds a very important meaning that every person can succeed even if it takes some time or means trying different approaches.   I would definitely use this book in my future classroom because the message is positive and will help students feel empowered and special.  It also helps fuel creativity in students and will be a great lead into a fun community building activity to do as a whole group.
After reading the book and discussing the important meaning found it, pass out a dot to each student.  Have them glue their picture to one side and then on the other side, write a goal they have or something they want to accomplish.  Then string the dots into a long strand and hang it in the classroom.  Revisit the strand in a few weeks to see how the students are progressing towards their goal and brainstorm as a group ways to help each other reach their goals.
