The Dot

In a lot of ways, I feel I have ready made my mark by starting an art program.   The program my husband and I created fills a need within the community and brings attention to the importance of art education every time we are interviewed on television or in a paper.  I do however, hope to make my mark larger by growing the project to include more schools in the area and more students.  My goal is to grow the program to the point that we are not only a source of education for elementary students but also a source of employment for others who wish to give back to the community.

I find my inspiration to continue with the program every time one of my first grade students excitedly tells me that they learned to draw eyes or a parent of a sixth grader tells me they were surprised when their child came home talking about Picasso.  Too often people overlook the importance of art education, especially in younger grade levels but my mark is made every time one of my kindergartens learns to properly hold a pair of scissors and I am profoundly proud of that little dot.
