I believe I have made my mark on children already, and I continue to. Working at the YMCA in Flushing, I see kids with all different types of interests and beliefs. My job is to get these children excited about a certain activity for that day. For example, 5 children might want to play kickball and one will say “I have never played,” or in a whiny voice, “I don’t like kickball.” I have to now get that child to put their dot on the paper. I can do that by saying, “Come play for ten minutes and decide if you like,” or “Stand by me and watch for a little and I will explain the game.” The stubborn child usually enjoys an activity after seeing the excitement of everyone else and participating themselves.
