Inspiration from "The Dot"

This was a very inspiring book and topic to me as a teacher. I currently work in a child care center where we have preschools classrooms and I am a future elementary teacher. When I heard “The Dot” for the first time it really connected me to my own students at the preschool. There are so many kids that don’t get the encouragement that they should. There are so many kids that get their ideas pushed aside. There are so many kids that lack self confidence. The teacher in this story encouraging this little girl showed me that I can, as one person, be enough to encourage my students for a lifetime. I also learned that even if a child doesn’t show it at first, sometimes it takes time for them to realize how empowering you have been to them. Being a teacher is a very rewarding thing when you get to see children passing on your encouragement to other people like the little girl did in “The Dot”. When the teacher told her to just make a dot, the little girl was very mad at first making her dot but she came very far from that. She ended up being very proud, making more art, and finished by encouraging another child to do what they thought couldn’t be done! As a teacher, I will be able to be that encouragement for children!
