Dot Day Response

National Dot Day

The book "Dot Day" by Peter H. Reynolds is a great example of an encouraging story. In this class, I think it is very important to remember the 'Dot' that the story is based on.

This class, Women, Education, and Globalization, there are a lot of discouraging and harsh topics that will be talked about. Keeping in mind throughout the semester how all it takes is one small mark to make a difference, and start something that could turn into something bigger and more powerful. Learning about these tough topics can lead to discouraging thoughts leaving any of one of us feeling disappointed in ourselves and ineffective to the huge situation or problem. This book is an awesome example about how, we as students, can make a difference and make our mark on the problems at hand in our world today. All it takes is a small community project to spark a more powerful movement to help the serious problems that are currently going on.

On a more personal level, I will remember the 'The Dot' from the story by volunteering at a local elementary school and spending my time encouraging the children I work with each and every time I see them. Never letting them get down on themselves over their problems which can be solved with hard work. I think using the slogan, "Make your mark...and see where it takes you," is awesome and has the possibility of really affecting the children!
